TITLETITLETILETILE exhibition
Tritriangle Gallery, Chicago
January, 2014

video installation developed as a translation from the timekeeper’s meditation

Over the course of an evening 50 pounds of ice melt atop a hand-crafted wood table into tin buckets below. Video of film footage from Ernest Shackleton’s 1915 voyage on the ship The Endurance, edited with footage of the re-enactment of this voyage in 2013, plays in loop. The video projects a ghostly image through the ice, reflecting and engulfing the table on either side. Slowly over the course of the exhibition, the ice melts and the imagery is transformed. Present in the space is an original soundscape devised from text of Shackleton’s journals and the amplified sound of water dripping into tin buckets.
