We Are The Things Of Ghosts
Directed by Lindsey Barlag Thornton
A devised performance with Alexis Atwill, Alison Auwerda,
Jonathan Monroe-Cook, Mac Gerber & Tongyu Zhao
We Are The Things of Ghosts investigates philosophical questions, scientific inquiries, and personal meditations on life and death, space and time, the body and the echoes/traces we leave behind. Through image, movement, spoken text, sound and song, light and dark the audience is taken on a experiential journey. At moments contemplative, morbid, absurd, and humorous, the performance sources inspiration from the likes of Skeeter Davis, Blind Willie Johnson, Acoustic Vessels, Carl Sagan, and Albert Einstein.
Originally performed in the Auditorium of The School of The Art Institute of Chicago for the
IMPACT Performance Thesis Festival. April, 2014.
A second iteration of the performance was conceived specifically for The Copernicus Center's Theatre (formally The Gateway), Chicago's first movie theatre built for the talkies and its only surviving atmospheric style theatre.
November 17th - 19th, 2014.
